Default CO-op plumbing charges

New York City My NYC co-op building has billed me for the replacement of a water shut-off valve (within the wall). The Proprietary Lease states "That the Lessee shall keep the interior of said apartment an all plumbing and the private elevator, if any, belonging thereto in good repair"
The management office states that because the shut-off valve provides water only to my unit, it is my responsibility. I believe that getting water, electricity and heat, is general services expected in a Proprietary Lease.
The super hired the plumber, signed-off on the work, took a photo of the shut-off valve area and kept the piece that was damaged. I feel that the co-op does not have the right to spend my money, to take photos or keep parts, without my expressed authorization and permission, which was not given, but, I was home at the time of the work. What legal recourse do I have?
