We had a Lasko Fan start a fire in our bedroom and cause about $27,000 in property loss throughout. My 62 yr old mother-in-law witnessed the fan being the only thing on fire. We have fire investigator reports stating that was the only possible cause of the fire based on flare marks, nothing else being plugged in, nothing wrong with the outlet, no candles etc. The inspector for the fan company contacted me and told me he agreed with the assessment of the local investigation which was that the fan started the fire. He told me not to worry, that we would be compensated.
Upon never hearing from the fan company, we spoke with a lawyer who agreed to take our case. He sent letters and made phone calls getting no response. Eventually, the insurance company for our townhome had an expert anylize the fan and he couldn't find a definitive cause within the fan. Based on that, the lawyer firm decided we weren't worth their time on a contingency basis. We are 2 weeks away from the statute of limitations apparently, and we are not sure what to do. My main concern is for other families. The 2nd time this happens, someone could die. My 3 yr old daughter was here at the time. She is 5 now, and still has nightmares about running from a burning house. Don't leave a fane running at your house when you leave, especially if it's a Lasko! Please help asap! |

It is certainly possible you have a case based on what you say here; you should take a brief description of these events as well as your medical records etc to an injury or products liability attorney and see if the attorney thinks you have a claim; often you need to contact several attorneys to find one to take the case; the review of your case and records is often free and then they will normally take the case on a contingency fee basis if they think you can win; you would pay only if they collect for you...
Sometimes you need to talk to a number of lawyers--if they all agree, there likely is no viable case. |
