Default avis car rental extra fee overcharge scam

Avis overcharged me and stuck on a sneaky unannounced fee of 35 dollars.

They said this was a new special fee. I am canceling the charge on my credit card.

Watch out for these tricks by Avis!!

they have tried to charge me for gas when I’ve returned the car with a full tank and claimed it was an honest mistake,”

“It leads me to suspect they are just tacking the fee on and most people aren’t noticing or complaining about it.”

ripoff!!!

Why not just set an honest fee that all can see???

They started adding hose undisclosed fees in January.

Class action would be nice as I think it all seems very deceptive??

Well if you do start a class action, count me in!

Same problem in Denver, and it is very irritating.

They really should show the fees in advance which in many cases they simply do not do--or they give conflicting information between corporate and franchise offices.

Did they remove your fee after complaining?

They did remove my fee after I complained to the credit card company. Just FYI.

Here is my story about their gasoline charge:

On Aug. 25, 2009, I went to Avis rent a car at Ithaca airport to get a compact car. The guy there was not friendly at all, seemed angry at me for not reserving a car earlier. Demand me to wait for sometime before the car would be ready for me. I remember he said that if I did not drive more than 75miles, I need to leave a receipt for adding gas in the car, or I will be charged 13.99 for gas. Because of this, later that day, I made sure that I added full gas (cost around $4) so that I could return the car the next day early in the morning. The unfair practice by Avis is that no one even checks to see if there is a receipt in the car. It could be that they checked and denied the existence of the receipt. I would never know that. Either they charged me 13.99 which was double charge for the gas.

When I contacted them about this, they could not credit me saying that I did not have a receipt for adding the gasoline though I left it on the dashboard. I could not anticipate this complication to make a photo copy of my receipt. Also I could not use my credit card as mine is from Canada having no valid zip code to enter. As a result, I paid cash which was about $4. Apparently the 13.99 charge is way above the cost (around $4). Also, they refuse to acknowledge the existence of the receipt and still charge you. For the fact, I know that the receipt was there. Where could it go? They insisted that I leave the receipt together with the key. I did not see such a statement anywhere and the guy told me otherwise. But they do not acknowledge that or their mistake, instead I have to pay for their errors. I cannot believe that this is a fair practice. As for handling my complaint, their attitude is basically like we can do what we like and there is nothing you can do about it. I guess that they are right on that. However I feel obliged to let others know their unethical business practice. Thank you.
