My DV9000 just died while typing an email. Also have the hinge issue. The unit won't power up beyond just the dashboard lights. Goes into a cycle of lighting up and powering down, never with the screen lighting up. HP is sending a box for repair.

In my case and in many other cases the heat caused the motherboard to burn, preceded by wireless and screen failing.
In my case, HP is trying to avoid responsibilities because I live in one country and bought it in another. But I lived in the country of purchase when I bought the faulty HP Pavillion. Just lame excuses. HP is trying to run away from a clear design and project flaw. There is already a Class Action here - Got A Class Action? I have had a problem with my dv9000t overheating and intermittently shutting down for quite a while. I had initially worked around the problem by putting it on a cooling pad, but now that solution has stopped working. I am 3 months out of warranty, and my serial number is not listed in the warranty enhancement program, so HP said I'd have to pay for a consultation.
HP has essentially said that I can keep a $2,000 paperweight with serious design defects, or I can pay more for them to look at it. I'd be interested in joining a class action. |

I'm having motherboard issues as well, my notebook is only 13 months old and since I have a dv9808ca I'm not covered under the extended warranty, so HP has left me high and dry. Glade to see HP standing by their "quality" products. HP wants me to pay 400$ for a repair but honestly i expected more from a $1300 machine. I wont be buying another HP and I intend on telling everyone I know about how their notebooks are basically designed to die once the warranty expires, a real classy move on HP's part.

re: HP Pavilion dv9000 (and others) Overheating Damage/ Motherboard Failure
Hi guys,
I have the same problem with an HP Pavilion dv9393ea Laptop. The computer is overheating and shuts down after 5-10' of operation. I paid 30 Euros to get it to the service and they told me it has a defective motherboard, and said that they requires 400 Euros to fix it (omg). I've had this notebook for nearly 2 years, so the warranty of one year that HP provided (?) does not apply. I now have a very expensive paperweight to decorate my office. What can I do with it? Is there any possibility that HP will take it back and fix it for free or for a very small fee? Is there an international e-mail/service where I can address my problem? (since I am in Greece, I've already tried the greek hp support site but they weren't any helpful, even after stressing the importance of the nature of the problem and the defective series of laptops) I was thinking of selling it for some spare parts, just so as to get some money in order to buy something new. Do you have any better idea? please help me! |

I also have 2 HP DV9000 laptops - both with fried motherboards. The first fried last august, it was out of warranty and HP wanted to charge me $600 to fix it (so i bought a netbook for $250) My husband's fried yesterday morning, we just sent his to HP in February to have the hinge fixed. Called Hp and they wouldn't even talk to me on the the phone without charging me $99, took it to a local PC repair shop and the lady said there was no point getting a new motherboard because it would fry again. She sends back at least 2 fried HP motherboards a week. What does it take to start a class action lawsuit? I'm so upset about this, I feel cheated and i feel like i bought 2 lemon laptops from a company who doesn't care about their cutomers.

I have a DV9207us notebook from HP. I purchased from CompUSA on June 3rd, 2007. About 9 months after I purchased my left hinge broke. I sent the laptop back to HP for warranty repair, which they performed. Over the past couple of months I noticed that the hinge seemed to be getting ready to break again. This past Sunday Jun 28th my screen went dark with many small colored dots/lines on it. This happened while I was editing pictures running Windows XP. I have had the system set up for dual boot for about 1 1/2 years, so I tried to boot into Vista. Vista would make it to the screen where I enter my password and then a black screen. My laptop works in Windows XP until I plug the power cord, which according to my local repair shop indicates something with the video card as XP only uses the graphics card when it is plugged in. I have contacted HP for support on several occasions only to be told that my model number is not part of the extended warranty program and that I would have to pay to have it repaired. I cannot afford to pay $400.00 to have my computer repaired and I really need it for school. I will never purchase any HP product ever again, and everyone that I meet will know how awful and immoral of a company HP is.
