I am curious about this problem. Anyone in Alabama, Florida or Mississippi that would like to discuss the overheating issues with me?
If so, shoot me an email. |

I have a dv9334 with a bad motherboard (overheating suspected.) I spent an hour on the phone with "Carisa" and "Mark" in the Philippines today and ended up getting nowhere. I have owned the computer (bought new from an online retailer) for 13 months.
Mine is the Intel Centrino version - which as they kept reading to me from the script - does not fall under the enhanced/extended warranty. |

DV9000 here with the defective GO 7600 GPU in it. I have gone thru several interations of trying to get asstance from HP's so called "Total Care" support. My particular model is not in the extended warantee list. Seems that only the AMD equipped models are included in that list, not the Intel ones, even though the GPUs are the same and are all defective. I am just waiting for the results of the class action suit that is currently underway.
Just as an interesting side note here. I have had a couple of reports from clients that have had GPU temps in their notebooks that have exceeded 100 degrees Celcius. All it will take is one incident of a fire or personal injury being linked to this heating issue and this will take on a whole new meaning. Just ask the Maytag people about dishwasher recalls and rewiring on hundreds of thousands of machines that were deemed to be fire hazards and this included those that had been out of warrantee for years. In the mean time I would advise HP to but some sort of warning out to advise people to keep any sort of low temp combustibles out of harms way so to speak. Perhaps a few letters to the various consumer protection agencies with regard to potential fire hazard might motivate HP to "do the right thing" |

I bought a refurbished dv9740 last year, by early December it started overheating and days later the thing was dead. The technician says it's the motherboard. Does anyone else have a similar problem? I'm stuck with this P.o.S. in Peru

I own (regretably) a Pavillion dv-9006 and after less than 2 years the dvd burner is broken and now the mother board is toast. A local repair shop issued a repair quote at nearly $800 for parts and labor. Naturally, I was furious and am seeking my vengeange against the manufacturer of these machines which clearly, have been built to fail.
HP agreed to fix this machine for roughly half of the aforementioned cost, but this presents a real dilemna; who knows how long before the next major problem?.....Many computer techs have told me that today's computers are built with inferior parts from China or wherever they can be contracted from so long as they come cheap. Good for them, a nightmare for us. I am prepared to sue for damages as I hope others who own of these is as well but hardly know where to start. If anyone has advice or wants to form a class action is reading, please advise. |

Turned off my computer at night. Next moring, all the lights were on on the keyboard, but there was no video on the monitor. I looked it up on the HP website, and found out that is was a flash bios? problem. Doesn't regulate the fan properly, so I probably fried the motherboard or video board. That would explain why my desk always seemed hot underneath the laptop. My serial/model number matched the "HP service enhancement" program. I called HP's 1-866 number, and they said they would fix it for free, even though my warranty was over. (by about 2 years +!) They sent me a prepaid box via UPS, and I got my computer back within two weeks. I am relatively happy with their customer service.
Check out the link before you toss your computer. Save yourself hundreds in repairs or new laptop. |
