I sent my DV9000 in for the left hinge repair. I noted on the repair slip that the cpu was overheating as well. They sent me a box 2 day fedex. I sent it in and got it back within 1 week. No motherboard issues.

I unpack my laptop and attempt to turn it on. Nothing. Starts to go then off, starts to go then off.

Now HP tells me the motherboard is busted and will be $315.00 to fix. I said no. I called back and spoke to Tracy. She was actually a good CS rep ad asked me what i thought HP should do. I said FIX IT NOW. She said she will send it to her case manager and they will contact me within 24-48 hrs to determine the best solution.

I wish I had kept it with the busted hinge b/c at least it worked! Now I have a laptop that closes and can be carried around however it doesnt work.

I will post the final resolution which better be HP fixing it for FREE!

Got a customer service "master" on the phone and he said I would have to pay $200 to have it fixed now. Down from $315. I told him no and that HP should fix a product numerous people have also encountered. He said people on the internet lie and say things that are false. After talking for about 10 more minutes and me offering to pay $50 he said he could do it for $150.

I am going to call corporate: 650-857-1501. My entire family has HP products and we will never buy another after this, that is unless they fix it for free and give me better customer service.

Has anyone got it fixed for free and if so, HOW?

They fixed my left hinge for free and sent a fed ex box--did it all in four days. Ws quite fast.

That was in March and they told me at the time I had until May so not sure what is the status for free repairs now.

The left hinge on my dv9207us failed 2 weeks after the May 31, 2009 deadline. HP had me pay $102.90, a discount of $200 I was told, to send in their badly flawed creation for repair. I believe there should have been a recall for this issue and their Nov. 8, 2008 to May 31, 2009 "limited service enhancement" is totally arbitrary and inadequate. I will never trust an HP product again.

I also had a dv9000 laptop. Considering the huge sum I paid for it I am totally disappointed in the build quality of hp laptop. The left hinge has totally come off and there is no way I can continue using it. I called hp support at least 4 times and they will not repair it for free. A case manager offered me a $150 discount which I refused. This has to be repaired free because its a total build quality issue. I dont pay $1600 for a laptop and expect it to go broke after 6 months of use.

Default Follow-up to left hinge repair

Follow-up:
They fixed my left hinge failure and had the notebook back to me within a few days. Hopefully it won't break again.

I bought my Hp pavillion 6700 a year ago and it broke on me at about 9 months. I have been researching computers and i have settled on a leveno thinkpad t61, if you are looking for a tough laptop that can last for a price that is reasonable you can't go wrong with this computer, and if you have the money go for the toughbook. However, they can get up past 5k usd, and the specs with regards to computing power don't look impressive to a multimedia computer user like me.
Furthermore, I am interested in a class action law suit.

I think if you push the issue they may still do the hinge repair. A colleague had the same issue recently.
