The same issue occurs (very clearly) with the HP Pavilion dv6 series. I currently own an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC with Core i3 370M. It's a great computer, and it can certainly perform tasks, but after about 4-5 months of normal-to-moderate use (including transportation inside a backpack, very gently and with padding), the laptop started losing potential. I noticed it was getting very hot, so I started airing it out regularly with a blow-fan.
Within a month of the heat issue, the laptop's melted into1 a complete mess. There's physical cracking and WARPING (yes, partially near-melted plastic) on the black bottom cover, and the casing is falling apart alarmingly (if you got one from Costco you'd see the silver-plastic boundary between the top and bottom cases separate from the other two pieces). The aforementioned hing problem is prevalent as well, and I have to take care to close the laptop very carefully or risk breaking the top casing and screen. The laptop itself still works, but I lose internet connection a lot (possibly a heat/adapter issue, will investigate), and it still heats up to points at which I skip frames (temp tested at over 105 Centigrade) and start losing work due to spontaneous heat-related system crashes. I understand that getting a very intense fan would be an appropriate solution, but there's no reason for HP not to provide us with one. If I received a full or nearly-full partial refund, or even a hardier, better HP laptop WITH an unlimited extended warranty and an external fan-cooling pad, I'd be satisfied. HP customer service is very decent, but the design flaws of this laptop are, without mincing words, crippling to both entertainment and productivity. I honestly wish I had just saved up for an Asus =/ ah well. For details about my scenario, you can contact me at sharadkage2@gmail. - Sharad |

I explained that I understood there was a special service bulletin for my case. They politely put me on hold, came back on in less than a minute, asked for serial number. I gave it, they said stand by. They returned again in a minute, gave me a ticket number & said I would be receiving a pre-paid FedEx box in the next business days, & would receive my laptop computer back within nine days.

Re: HP Pavilion 9000 series hinge break and burn problem
You are one of the lucky ones.. I bought two. and they replaced one because they said it was still under warranty.. ( the other was newes but not under warranty - go figure) this is after 7 trips back and forth to repair it took years of phone calls requesting management then upper management to finally get one repaired and the other I had to pay to get repaired... :-(

So i don't know if this thread is still good but ill tell you my story. 8 months after i purchased my DV9000 my screen went black. I sent it in and on warranty and they fixed the problem. but when i got my laptop back the screen had finger print smudges on it and was super dirty. A month after my warranty period was up the same thing happened and the HP rep refused to claim to acknowledge the fact that i had a dv9000, which is what it says on the top right of the screen, and said that the serial number was for a DV9700. Then he went on to tell me it would cost about 400 dollars to fix the problem. I refused to pay the amount and told him about the class action law suit and he said it would still be 400 dollars.
I bought a new laptop and every now and then i will use my HP. Only now the bottom left and right corners of the screen have started to burn and become really hot. I have owned this laptop since 2008 or maybe 2009, don'd really remember but i'm sure i can find the receipt somewhere. Where do we go from here. If i can get my machine fixed for free that would be wonderful. But surely this is the last HP product i ever buy. Mishaal_mj@hotmail.com |

I bought my HP Pavilion dv9715nr in 2007 or 2008 from Best Buy and have experienced the overheating problem just like most and instead of buying expensive compressed air, i used my vacuum and sucked out the dust which significantly decreased the temperature of the CPU. However, it wasn't enough because 2 days ago the hinge on my dv9715nr cracked and has made it nearly impossible to close the monitor without having to use pliers to slowly rotate the hinges until its closed.
This isn't the only problem Ive experienced with my laptop. Approx. 13 or 14 months after I bought my dv9715nr the built-in microphone stopped working. I tried looking for solutions but never found one. So, HP, you have another pissed off consumer who will be taking his $ to MAC from now on. |

I've also had problems with my HP DV9000. I sent it in a few months after I received it and the motherboard was replaced. I've called them several times and still I continued to have the same problems with the motherboard. I had my laptop for less than two years before I finally gave up and bought me a Dell. I will never buy another HP product again.
If there is a lawsuit against HP, I'd certainly like to know about it as well. Thanks |
