Hi,
I synchronised everything I intended to backup on my hard drive. Now I've realised I don't need it synchronised I want to remove all the synchronised information and simply back up the files. Is it possible to do this without deleting the files? I'm no expert on these matters and I'm really worried I'm going to delete all my documents. Thanks, Tom |

Re: WD Sync software on the WD Passport drive
William,
How might one actually talk live to a Dmailer tech regarding restoring data? You posted your tech support address; thank you so much. Yesterday, I found myself in the horrid position of having to reimage my laptop. Like others, I bought a WD Passport assuming the benefit of using it to restore (or backwards synch) my files in case of catastrophic failure. The nice lady who stated she uses hers as more of an external storage device... well, when I use Microsoft Explorer to view the files on the WDPassort, they are all in 26 + alphabetical folders with gibberish in them. How does one actually get to the files. For fun I created another profile - telling it NOT to auto synch, and I am still not able to get to the files. I have already searched your web-site but am not finding these instructions. Thank you very much! merlenemanuel@avaya.com |

Has no one ever heard of a Help file or a Read Me file. Here WD is calling it a QicGuide file. Pretty self explanatory. You need to read the instructions that comes w/the software. They are in the folder where everything else is. Open up the folder thats on the Passport. Find the WD_Windows_tools folder, Open the QicGuide folder, choose your language. Amazin-there it is, a QicGuide.pdf file. Scroll down and they tell you where to go to find out more about WD-Sync.
Visit our Knowledge Base at support.wdc.com and see Answer ID 1434 for details on setup and use. IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ: WD Sync is intended to synchronize data from a computer to your Passport drive and SHOULD NOT be used as backup software. To use this software properly, we strongly advise that you do not wipe or erase the data from your computer system. Doing so will wipe out the data on the Passport drive when WD Sync is used. Well Well, Just read the instructions Gee, why didn;t I think of that... I have read them, and all the FAQ's on the Dmailer site. I have not heard mention of the "hanging" sign on program where the chick is holding out a device towards you, she is like all the other chicks in my life "Not Responding" HA! Then I really like when you select a file to restore or sync- then click on the "open" button, and 100% of the time get the " Please select and Item" error message. The absolute best part of dmailer is when you click on the "Forgot Password" , you know, thinking they might send you an email or have a method to set another one, and after a warning message, and then a "do you really want to do this" message, it reases all your data for the profile. I suppose the whole thing is wrapped in a kind of mystical disbelief that casues you to do stupid things, just becasue you really CAN NOT believe that 1. You just bought a device that does not do what you thought it said it can 2. you can't believe dmailer solution to lost password is to delete your data!

Continued: It is like buying a lawn tractor at Home Depot, get it home, try to mow with it--- nothing happens--- you read the manual and it says " Not for mowing grass -- tractor for sitting and drinking beer only"

I have a 500GB WD Passport. I chose not to use the WD Sync Software after realizing that that the program is very picky as to which folders it syncs up. Creating new folders anywhere on your computer requires manual selection of each to sync each new folder, silly. As well as the fact that I cannot sync 2 profiles from a single computer into one WD Sync profile, of course unless it's an administrator account, not so lucky working on gov't machines.
Explain this: I started dragging and dropping files onto the drive, as is suggested in an earlier post, using it as more of a flash drive. I planned on using the files on my home cpu. However, once I plugged that bad boy into my home cpu, all I was looking at was xml documents!! AWESOME!!! Soooo, explain that one, I would love to just use it as I mentioned. |
