Dear all

Yesterday I tried to connect for the first time my WD Passport drive.
The autorun feature comes with the product (is preinstalled in the disk) opens a menu and it seems like to have to do installation of the advertised s/w.
I think this is wrong because someone who doesn't know or doesn't have enough experience may have problems like those mention by others in this post.
Google toolbar is useless for the functioning of the product
Copy application s/w I don't know what is doing and what is copying from or to where.

And now WD Sync

Sync means synchronization, so doesn't means backup.

Sync is a procedure that must be controlled to do what you want whithout problems or loss of data.

For WDSync the company doesn't give any instructions for use or its functionality and I think this is a serious mistake.

Taking all previously mentioned reasons as input, I decided to say cancel in every proposition for s/w installation.

If someone wants to use synchronization s/w there is one included in power toys by microsoft or some other solutions that comes from the open s/w community.

Finally don't ever do what it is proposed by others before understand the proposition. Think marriage or wedding and you will understand.

Angry Re: WD Sync software on the WD Passport drive

Hi, I`m from Argentina & I had the same problem. I guess that I had a copy of my files to restore my PC but I was wrong.
It is posssible to make a claim to WD or Dmailer?
Somebody know a solution?

Unhappy Re: WD Sync software on the WD Passport drive

I just had the same thing... I needed to do some work on my wife's computer (new motherboard) so I did the WD Sync as a backup... well it crashed so I rebooted and started it again and somehow it deleted about 90% of her pictures... 11 years (our entire married life). She is lying on the bed crying.

So... if I would not have tried to do a backup I'd be fine.

i love my passport

ps- ALLWAySe backup important data to cds, hrd drives ect.
I think this person has the right idea - use the device as a big flash drive, and ignore all the complicated software that comes with it. Since I got this external HD expressly for the purpose of storage, this is the best AND safest idea.

Red Face Re: WD Sync software on the WD Passport drive

I have not had a problem with this software....and I am not a synch experienced person....I aprehensively make attmepts to synch my phone contacts and music...but/and as a rule...I always turn off *AUTO* anything until I get an undertsanding of what it will do when left to run on its own. As useful as I think this synching is....i also utilize backups, specifically IDrive, which also has a synch function, optionally invokable...which I expect some might deploy with as deadly results as they have this software. My WD drive included a pdf file that was pretty reasonably instructive. Not perfect, but I think it contributed to me not doing anythnng fatal to my ilfes.

Sync IS NOT a backup utility. It clearly states this if you read the info that comes with the drive. Like I tel my kids... read the damn book!

Hi guys

just i want to tell you one thing, do not use the software of WD Syne. just copy or cut from your computer to the Hard Drive WD but never use the software they offer inside of your hard drive, which you will lose your all data.

Take care

peter

i have used the wdsync software several times. no problems. if you don't understand it, maybe you should try reading the directions. to blame software for doing exactly what it is supposed to do and not what you want it to do is lame. if you plug it into a new pc it GIVES YOU THE OPTION TO COPY THE PROFILE TO THE PC. what more do you want?

i've been working in IT for 20 years and this is one of the best sync programs i have seen.

BTW, i would guess all of you that had problems either didn't read the instructions, or didn't understand them but didn't bother to ask someone for help.

don't try syncing your ipod to another computer or the same thing will happen. FYI
