Hi, I had a TVT together with anterior and posterior vaginal wall repair in August 2008. 2 weeks later I was taken back to theatre to loosen the TVT as it had been put in too tight and I couldn't pass urine at all (went home with catheter in for 2 weeks). The tape was loosened Sep 2008 and I am now due to have further surgery in a couple of weeks to divide the tape as I cannot empty my bladder completely and have to self-catheterise 3-4 times daily. I also get recurrent UTI's and thrush. Has anyone else been in a smilar situation, everyone I ask states it does happen but its not common. Have I got grounds for a legal claim? Should I seek further medical advice from another uro gynaecologist?
Thanks in advance for your comments. Sharon UK |

looks like i am a little late for these discussions but i too had the bladder mesh surgery in 2008 and nothing but problems since. had second surgery to remove some of the mesh as my body had rejected it. i feel pelvic and bowel pressure all the time and my gyn dismisses it. tells me there is nothing wrong to go to a gi doctor, but i have notbeen right since the surgery but they wont believe me.

I am 44 had a TVT procedure done in July this year because of bladder leaking (nothing to do with pelvic floor as the muscles were strong). Was catheterized after surgery as there was a large amount left in my bladder after voiding. I was sent home and 2 days later ended up in emergency dept as I couldn't pee. Doctor told me I wasn't that full but after 4 attempts to put a catheter in by various staff there was over 1300mls drained. His remark was "Oh I guess you were full after all". To top it off things got worse from there. Was catheterized again a few days later. Once that came out I had awful pain right before I got my body's signal to pee and 95% of the time now I don't make it to the loo on time and constantly wear pads. Bladder bleeds occasionallyand my sex life has suffered and I am newly married. I hate grocery or clothes shopping as I have wet myself on different. Eventually I got another surgeon who was lovely and concerned enough to take me seriously. I am going in for surgery again on 19th nov to divide TVT tape. No guarantees it will work. Anything is better than living with what I have at the mo.

I'm 50 and had the TVT procedure done this past September after my gyn said that it would help prevent incontinence with my physically busy lifestyle. The doctor has been doing this for 10 years without any problems with rejection of the material used for the sling. In August he decided to change to the Coloplast sling because they claimed that it would be less invasive for the patient.
I found at week 11 post surgery that there was a very sharp spot at the incision area in my vagina so I called the doctor and the receptionist said "oh no not another one!" The doctor told me that 3 out of the 5 women that he did this procedure on has failed in the same manner since August. I now need to go in for another surgery to correct it. Can anyone tell me if this will be an ongoing problem? Will it continue to come out of me over time??? I am a competetative triathlete and ride my bike a lot. I'm afraid that this area will be continually irritated. Can I send the bill not covered by insurance to Coloplast? I would love some good news for a change. |

I had surgery June 2009 and have had nothing but trouble since then. I was told I would only be in pain for a couple of days and ended up being stuck in bed for well over a month. It feels like something is tearing into my muscle, into my urthea and will then start to burn like hell. I went to my 1 week post-op visit and was told "I have never seen anything like this before". Then it was 2 sometimes 3 visits a week to the same Dr. who would change pain meds. like it was candy. Even after continuing to tell him how much pain i was in, crying at his mercy, I would still get the same response "Everything looks and fells o.k." " None of my other patients have had any pain after a couple of days". Ultrasounds, CT Scans, ref. to Urologist that does maybe 2 of these surgeries a year by this Dr., you name it I've done it. "Everything looks fine". But, I AM STILL IN PAIN!! After many visits wasted and money in the Dr. pocket, I finally decided to go to a different Dr. hoping he would listen. After examination.... "Tape feels to low". Sent to 2nd Urologist for his opinion.... "Tape is in wrong place, it's to low hitting right on your trigger point." Glad to say that he is going to remove part of tape that is in wrong spot next week (Nov.25). I will be so Thankful when this horrible pain and nightmare are over. Can't sit for very long, can't and don't want to have sex because it hurts, and did I mention I am only 31 and have 4 kids? Can something be done to the Dr. who did this to me??????
