Re: Sling (TVT) surgery gone bad?
I had tvt surgery with a vag hysterectomy Jan 2007. Just after I had a nagging ache in my left groin and the gyne told me that maybe a nerve was irritated. To shorten the story the pain became progressively worse. Now I have persistant pain to the left groin burning with radiation down my inner leg and into my foot. I got bursitis in my left hip from limping and had that injected. I went to a urologist (who didn't do the surgery) and told him I think I HAVE NERVE ENTRAPMENT AS A RESULT. He dismissed it and said there is no way this is possible due to the anatomy alone. On Dec 1st he agreed to give me a steroid injection into the area to see if it makes any difference. I am now on LTD, limp constantly, and can't sit for longer tahn 10 minutes. I am beyond frustrated!
my e-mail is deborama2@live.com Thank-you. I would love to chat with anyone with similar experiences. Deb. |

I am interested in joining the class action suit. I too am having similar problems and I have a friend also who is in constant pain. I had a vaginal hysterectomy and bladder suspension surgery in 2007. Since then have had many urinary tract infections. Now, I am on constant antibiotic treatments because I can't seem to go without one. I have swelling in my abdomen and pelvic area and pain all of the time. I can no longer have sex.
My urologist said the tape gets eroded in your organs and its very risky if not impossible to get out. It is a breeding place for bacteria. My only choice would be to catheterize myself once a day or try for the risky surgery which I could die from. My friend and I went to the same OB-GYN and had the surgery. The doctor tried to take hers out right in the office and could not get it all out and told her it would dissolve. We were not warned of the risks of the tape procedure. On the way into the surgery room after I was given Valium a doctor associated with the group peaked her head in and asked if I wanter her to put the tape in. Of course, I said ok because I was under drugs. I am 61 years old and had to retire early because I was sick all of the time, therefore, had to take a cut in social security and my place of employment. So, yes I am definitely interested in suing as well as my friend who is still suffering from pain. |

Count me in! Surgery for incontinence in May 2006...severe complications including erosion through the vaginal wall, bleeding, infections, pain and so on. Three surgeries this year to remove it and help me heal. Now undergoing hyperbaric oxygen treatments as well. Definitely a life altering experience I wish I had never had. Contact me at lcm2634@bellsouth.net.

I too had the TVT put in July 2008. Since then I have had erosion twice. Now going back in for yet another surgery to "fix" the erosion. Not sure if I should have it removed or have him try to prevent it from happening again. No other complications other than in growing out and hurting my hubby during intercourse. Any advise? Not a good idea. Now ready all of the complications, I am worried something serious could result. I am 33. thehoppfamily@yahoo.com

I had the LSH-BSO and TVTO in January 2008. I called my urologist today to set up another appointment to remove more taping that is now eroding through the vaginal wall again. I also suffer a dysautonomia called POTS, it is advised to avoid surgery because of the effect of the anasthesia and the potential for serious complications, one being tachycardia. My dad also had serious tachy and died after surgery while in recovery, in 2004. To say the least, this has really reduced my life to chaos. I'm in the process of consulting an attorney. This situation with all us women effected in horrible ways, really needs to be resolved by Johnson and Johnson, Ethicon!

I actually had the TVT Sling procedure done 3 or four years ago and I have had no problems. My surgeon was highly recommended by other surgeons across the US. His name is Dr. Charles Nager and he is at UCSd in San Diego. He is a uro/gyno and he specializes in these types of womens issues. I highly recommend if you have any problems and need advice to go see him. I was looking something up on a web site - and this blog popped up.

I had TVT surgery 2 years ago, for the past year been telling my doctor about infection. I went on holiday and developed a lump in my groin and felt feverish. When I got home i went to the GP who sent me to hospital where I was diagnosed with a hernia, but when I went to surgery it was actually the vaginal tape had worked its way into my groin and caused an abcess which they removed and stiched me up, from then on went down hill and ended up in hospital three times with really bad infection which Hillingdon Hospital in London where I was treated were appaling I ended up with such a bad infection that the abcess was the size of a golf ball because if was left untreated properly. In the end I went to St Mary's hospital in Paddington where the abcess was removed and then spent the next three months having to visit the doctors every day to have it packed. I would definately think twice before considering this sugery.

Dose any one know the name of the mesh that was used to do your TVT?
I have heard of Prolene and that there may be 8 other meshes that are giving complications. I had surgery in Nov/08 , I had a TVH & TVT done. Inresult of the surgery I had complications with wettness due to a VVF (fistula). Repaired the fistula in Jan /15 /09 and it failed. I have complications after another, infections, sever pain in the pubic bone area and feeling fatigued all the time. I feel that maybe all this may have something to do with the TVT as well. I have constant abdominal pain, leaking with a catheter now still in since Jan, infections all the time. It hurts to sit and feel that I have to pull this pain I have in the vaginal area. No feeling to empty the bladder. I feel that my life was take from me and my family, limited time with family, and no sex life with hubby, cause of the pain and infections. Who would call this life? I'm sorry to here there are alot of us out there that are take form this mesh. |
