Some very good news.

Although I was victimized by MBF last December, my ordeal with them ended quickly. Two weeks after I signed the single page fraudulent lease, the three additional pages came in the mail. After reading the horrifying threads from everyone, I immediately sent out dispute letters to MBF's IL and NY addresses. The credit card machine, I returned to its originating address. I followed all of your advice. I filed with the BBB, FTC, Attorney Generals for IL, NY and CA, and the City Attorney. By the fourth week, I hired an attorney. Yesterday, I received in the mail a letter from MBF releasing of obligation to their lease.

I believe it is important to act now. I also strongly believe that my ordeal with this company was short due to having had good legal representation. The fact that there is a class action suit against them in NY also played a part. I suspect that Northern Leasing has more to lose by continuing to keep fraudulent accounts open in the event they are found responsible in court. They stand to pay greater restitution with so many victims.

Someone else has said it: While they're faced with a lawsuit, acting now is best. Good luck.

I FULFILLED MY LEASE AGREEMENT - $169.84 for 24 months ended Jan. 15, 2008!! They called today to say I was delinquent and that as far as they were concerned I was still leasing from them!!! The buyout amount for the sign I leased was $243.55. They took $169.84 out of my account in February so I told them I owed $73.71 and had my bank put stop payment against them! I am outraged!! My heart is still pounding. PB in Massachusetts

The site address has changed. The new site address is MBF Leasing and Northern Leasing Systems - Merchants Beware!

This is a site that has plenty of information about this company and users have posted ways of dealing with them.

I too have been harrassed by Northern Leasing for several years. When my business failed I called NL to inquire the way to return the bankcard machine. Sue requested that I check with Mr. G. who was buying my inventory to see if he was interested - which he was. I paid the transfer fee and all contact with NL stopped until something happened with Mr. G, three months later and my bank account had been cancelled. From then on the phone call started that lasted for months until I finally told them that they were bordering on harassment and I saved the calls.

When I applied for a refinance a couple of months ago NL reported to the credit bureaus that I was delinquent in making payments for several year. This appeared on my credit report when I went to make the loan. It seems as if they have employees watching the credit reports for movement on my part.

I am at my wits end with this fraudulent company. With all the negative information that is on the internet one would think that the government or local authorities would look into this.

I am in the process of writing the credit bureaus asking them to remove the false reports from my file. I don't have the money to hire a lawyer in Oregon to handle a case in New York, or retain a New York lawyer.

If any one of the presidential candidate states in their speech that they are going to close Northern Leasing for the good of America, they would have my vote!

Northern Leasing Systems, Missouri AG Reach Agreement on Lawsuit
Thursday, November 01, 2007

The Attorney General of Missouri has dismissed a lawsuit against a New York-based equipment lessor it had accused of defrauding dozens of Missouri small businesses that leased its credit card swiping machines.

Under an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance agreement reached between Northern Leasing Systems and the Missouri Attorney General's office, in exchange for dismissing the suit, the lessor has agreed to pay up to a total of $25,000 to approximately 40 merchants who filed complaints with the Missouri Attorney General, as well as $5,000 to reimburse the Attorney General for its legal fees.

In order to receive an average payment of approximately $600, each merchant will have the option of terminating its lease and returning the equipment to Northern Leasing, together with a general release.

The AVC further stipulates that the terms of the agreement "shall not be considered an admission of a violation for any purpose," and that Northern Leasing firmly contends that it has not violated any laws with respect to any of the matters alleged in the lawsuit.

Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon filed suit last April in St. Louis City Circuit Court against Northern Leasing Systems, based on allegations that the company altered contracts signed by Missouri businesses in order to obligate them to four-year leases that could not be canceled and to pay as much as $4,000 for a machine worth about $300.

"We are pleased that the issues alleged in the Missouri action have been resolved to everyone's satisfaction," said Jay Cohen, chairman and chief executive officer of Northern Leasing Systems. "Northern Leasing has always prided itself on the fairness of our business practices and the open dialogue we strive to maintain with our customers, financial partners and governmental agencies. Our swift and continued willingness to resolve issues whenever they arise is a strong indication that we take our reputation very seriously."

Cohen noted that, while the company was confident that it had complied with all laws, the cost of further litigation would far outweigh the cost of the settlement. Cohen also pointed out that the small number of complaints referred to in to agreement is not representative of the hundreds of thousands of satisfied Northern Leasing customers throughout the United States.

"The overwhelming majority of our customers in Missouri and elsewhere across the country are extremely satisfied with the value and customer service they receive from our company," said Cohen.

I'm a victim of their 'altered' lease scam. I signed a lease with them 2 years ago, my original is blank and told them I wanted a 2 year term, they said OK and will send me a lease with this term, never got it. What I did get was a bad photocopy with the lease term 'blacked out'. They told me their original is 'highlighted' on their end so it wont photocopy and that my lease term is 4 years and they have me recorded agreeing to this after I disagreed and said I told them 2 years. The lease also states $32.00 a month, they have been debiting $37.14 for the last 2 years. I closed my company in January and closed the bank account from which they debit. I have not heard from them but I'm sure I will since they have tried to debit for the May 08 payment. I filed complaint with the NY BBB and put a fraud alert on all my credit bureaus so they can't get my current info. I'm going to file with the NY Attorney General and here in California. I have not returned the terminal yet, I'm not sure if it's better to hold onto it as a bargaining tool or return it so they can't nail me for the cost of it. Anyone tell me what I should do next, besides the phonecall to them that I'm dreading?
