I have submitted appropriate paperwork to propose motions to reduce alimony, and enforce my rights pertaining to my original divorce agreement in NJ. I am representing myself. Do I have the right to bring someone who is not a lawyer to the hearing to help me take notes, and from whom I may from time to time seek advice during the hearing? This person has helped me put together the materials necessary, according to the directions from the court. I have never done this before, and I am very nervous about going in front of the judge. Having someone with me who is familiar with all the forms, and the supporting documentation, will help me feel more calm. If I do have this right, do I write to the presiding judge to get permission, or how do I go about this? Does the other party have the right to object?

If they are not a party to the proceeding the judge may not them be actually involved in the proceeding. But they could hold and organize the documents etc.
