Confused civil or criminal

i have purchased a car from a dealer made half of the payments lost my job and kinda liad low for acouple of months til i found work and got back on my feet. Dealer called my mother and said they were going to press charges for cat theft. Now isnt this a civil matter because the car was not stolen?

Normally yes it would be civil unless you are hiding the car and purposely not paying. But a couple of months is normally not criminal.
