children signing a petition

there is an issue with 1 of my sons coaches for his football team. The coach had used inappropriate language on the field with another volunteer and the result was they are both done for the season for breaking the code of conduct. Thats is fine with me rules are rules but some other parents do not feel this way and started a petition, once again fine do what you want until today they are asking the children to sign as well, and of course my child was one of the children they asked to sign it and he did so without my knowledge or consent. I have not been asked to sign this or have i seen it.

So my question is, are they allowed to go around and have the children sign it without a parent present or even at all?

That is odd but not illegal. And you could certainly object and ask the Board to intervene and invalidate the entire petition. It is likely they would do so as children are not the ones deciding this issue.
