Possible civil suit?

My ex owes me approximately $2000 for a couple of years of reimbursed medical bills for our youngest son, who just graduated from high school. If I were to file for enforcement of the original divorce decree what are my chances of having the court order him to share medical expenses for our 20 year old son who still lives at home and has had quite a few medical bills in the past several years? Would this be handled through a family court or would I have a better chance if I were to file a civil suit? If I were to file a civil suit, what is the possibility that I could recover at least some of college expenses/tuition
for all 3 of our sons? He makes 2 1/2 times what I make and has not paid anything in the way of college expenses or tuition.

He is in contempt if the bills were ordered to be paid. The divorce court is where you normally should file.
