Default be responsible, son!

I co-signed on a student loan for my adult son. He has a job but refuses to make payments and by taking such stand, is 'dragging me to the mud' with him. I am tired of asking him to take responsibilities for his debt. Can I call him to court and make him 'face the music'? How do co-signers legally defend themselves? Let me know. Thanks!
