my husband was out of town on business when a man (j) called him to buy his backhoe.husband told him he didn't want to sell. 2 weeks later another man (b) called him saying j told him that his backhoe was for sale, again husband told b that he did not want to sell.about a month after that backhoe was stolen, son called police and made theft report, since husband still out of town.report claimed bucket and forks were stolen also.when husband gets home he goes to police dept and gives serial # for backhoe to clerk on duty and is told that they will be put in system.8 months later husband is at welding shop and bucket and forks are there.he calls police and deputy takes down all info. he goes to home where owner of bucket and forks lives to question him. this man is deputy sheriff of another county B by the way, who supposedly bought these items 3 months before they were even stolen.my husband did some welding on the bucket that only a person who did would know. we went on vacation and received a call that they were going to drop the case since they never made a police report only an incident report on this matter.when we came home we went to chief who hadnt even heard about this case. he is now investigating but since then the backhoe has been moved and so has the bucket and forks, and man who supposedly sold these items to the deputy sheriff died two weeks ago although sheriff has illegible bill of sale. chief called in investigator who says the serial # is not the same but in this amount of time anything could have been changed and how do we know its even the same machine now.the man b was the man who called my husband and the j guy called my husband right after he got home from talking to the deputy. should we get a lawyer or call highway patrol or what?

It would help to get another agency to review what happened. Or you could try to file a compaint with the chief of the dept or top person and do so in writing, it may case him to investigate further.
