Default Sued for debts owed and gifts given

Hi all,

Im not sure if the advices given here is relevant to my country's context but i find the advices given here is great and helpful. I am from Singapore and I got to know a guy a few months back who is my customer at work. He lend 15,000 to me with an IOU signed which is agreed that I pay back in 2 yrs time from then.

Subsequently, he further gave me a 50,000 cheque, bought me a car and some investments under my name telling me he finds me a good guy and he wants to help me out in life as a brother and all is given to me without anythign signed but as a gift. After that, he began telling me he likes me and wants me to be his boyfriend instead. I rejected as i am straight. Which now he threatens to sue me for everything he has given me unless I become his boyfriend. He told me he has all the bank statements to prove that those money, car and investment came from him and I will be rid of my future if he proceeds to sue me.

Qn: The IOU I have signed with him for the 15k is agreed for 2 yrs from 3 months back. Can i be sued now? And if i pay him on a monthly installment via bank transfer to his acc. and he is not returning me the IOU, can my bank statement be a prove for me?

Qn2: All the gifts he gave including the car, cheque and investment, can he sue me back for it? As he agrees to give all to me as a gift but now he is using this to threaten me to stay by him. What should I do?

Pls help. A million thanks

Anything that was a gift you need not pay back. Keep any and all proof that you may have. Witnesses, emails etc.

He cannot make you pay back the IOU any faster than the original terms.

thanks so much for the reply law200. But I have no proof at all to prove that he gave me as a gift. can he still ue his bank statements to sue me and contest at court that it was a loan to me instead of a gift. If he does, who will win in this instance?

As for the IOU, if I pay him monthly installment via bank transfer but he is not returning me the IOU, can my bank statement be a proof or what can I do?

A million thanks once again.

Both of you would give any and all evidence that you have--and a court would decide.
