State Construction approved for China IPO
China State Construction Engineering has been given the final go-ahead to raise up to Rmb42.6bn on the Shanghai market in what is likely to be the world's largest listing this year.

China’s largest home builder, one of the beneficiaries of Beijing’s economic stimulus policies, said that it would issue as many as 12bn renminbi-denominated A shares and use the money to fund Rmb40.5bn worth of projects. Two of its subsidiaries, China Overseas Land & Investment and China State Construction International Holdings are already listed in Hong Kong.

Rio employee accused of bribery
Australian authorities have been granted access to the Australian Rio Tinto executive detained in China, who is accused of bribing Chinese steelmakers for secret information during tense iron ore negotiations.

Australian consular staff visited Stern Hu at the Shanghai detention centre on Friday for the first time since he was grabbed by Chinese officials last Sunday along with three colleagues.

China posts gain in monthly exports
Shipments rose 7.5 per cent in June from May as Asia's second largest economy generated its highest monthly exports so far this year while data from South Korea, Japan, the Philippines and India also showed positive momentum.

Similar positive signals emerged on Friday in month-on-month figures from South Korea, Japan, India and the Philippines, though on year-on-year basis, the data were uniformly negative.

Chinese debuts hit trading limit
The Shenzhen stock exchange used new suspension rules to halt trading in Guilin Sanjin Pharmaceutical and Zhejiang Wanma Cable, China's first two initial public offerings in 10 months, after they rose more than 20 per cent on their debut.

The Shenzhen exhange, which hosts mostly small- and medium-sized companies, adopted rules earlier this month aimed at preventing the wild fluctuations in new share prices which were common in China’s IPO boom of 2007. The exchange said it would suspend trading in IPO shares for 30 minutes if prices rise or fall 20 per cent, and for another 30 minutes if they gain or lose a further 50 per cent.

China's Hu: China Economy Has Been Stabilizing, Recovering
Chinese President Hu Jintao Monday said positive signs have emerged for the country's economy.

"The economic situation has been stabilizing and recovering, which creates good conditions for China to promote further economic and trade cooperation with foreign countries," Hu told a meeting of Chinese and Italian companies in Rome.

Businessmen from the two countries signed deals worth more than $2 billion, including an agreement with Italian car maker Fiat SpA (F.MI) to form a 50-50 joint venture with China's Guangzhou Automobile Group to produce cars and engines for the Chinese market from 2011.

General Motors Corp. considers Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. "a formidable bidder" for its Adam Opel GmbH unit, whose offer could threaten an earlier bid by Magna International Inc.

GM, which in recent weeks has described Magna as the front-runner to take over the European business, is increasingly attracted to the offer from Beijing Auto, which the Chinese state-owned car maker submitted last week, said a person close to GM.

China National Petroleum Corp. has offering $14.5 billion for Repsol investment
China National Petroleum Corp. has offered up to $14.5 billion for a majority stake in the Argentine unit of Spanish oil company Repsol YPF SA, according to media reports published on Tuesday.

The South China Morning Post, citing unnamed sources, reported that CNPC has offered between $13.2 billion and $14.5 billion for a 75% stake in the unit.
