China has strongly criticised the visit by India’s prime minister last week to the north-east state of Arunachal Pradesh, the latest sharp exchange between the two Asian powers about the border area, which is also claimed by Beijing.
Ma Zhaoxu of the Chinese foreign ministry said on Tuesday that Beijing was “seriously dissatisfied” by the visit by “the Indian leader”. The Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh travelled to the state on October 3 to campaign on behalf of his ruling Congress party, which appears to have retained control of the state in local legislative assembly elections held on Tuesday.
