China has been ramping up investments in its Central Asian neighbours, with Kazakhstan the largest recipient.
“Given the scale of Chinese investment in that country it would now appear virtually impossible for Kazakhstan to make a foreign policy decision that ran counter to Beijing’s wishes,” according to one geo-political analyst who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue. |
