my husbands daughter who is 26 yrs. old has been living with us for 8 years.
she is bi-polar and a drug addict. she goes to mental health but this does not seem to do any good. if we get guardianship over her, can we have her committed to a state mental health hospital. And will we be responsible for any bills she has. If you know of anything we can do. any help would be appreciated. She is out of control and refuses to help herself. |

First of all if she's 26 years old and she lives with her biological father you don't need to have guardianship of her as long as you can prove that she is in harm by herself and is doing drugs he can have her admitted cause he's concerned for his child.. Now if the courts say that he has no say then you need to file in court for incompentence on her basically saying that you have been caring for her for over 8 years and you are afraid that she will hurt herself or has hurt herself and you want to place her in mental home care and you want to be her legal sole beneficary of her then you can do that but yes you will be responsible for her bills cause then you are asking for the responsiblilty to place her in there and take control of her financial needs in everyway being her guardian but her father shouldn't need to do that as long as he can prove that she is a harm to herself he can have her admitted in there willingly by her or by the courts if he has proof of it,,,...
