I am divorced in Oregon and have full custody of my daughter. My ex wife has visitations every other weekend FRI 6pm- Sun 6pm. Recenly she has been showing interest in my daughters school (such as scheduled herself for conferences and showed up for open house) I understand that legally she has rights to find out school information regarding our daughter. The part I am currently confused on is the fact she showed up in my daughters class today and spent some time with her.
My question is that isnt my legal time with my daughter my time even when she is in school. So in that question does my ex have any type of right to see her in her school? If that is the case then what is to stop her from volenteering every day just to spend more time with her? So essentially what is the purpose of visitation time when she can do what ever she wants? It would be like me showing up at her house during her visitation to spend time with my daughter. I have talked with the school and they act dumb and say they dont know what can be done. The way I look at this is that she is in contempt of our divorce decree. Any info would be wonderful! Thank you (sorry for the long post just getting frustrated) |

You fool...she has every legal, moral right to particpate at her school and all other activites regardless if it's 'your' time. To compare that to going to her home and butting in is ridiculous!
I was divorced when my son was only 3, went to all his events at school, extra curricular, church. It's her right...and the school is obligated to extend the exact same privileges to her as to you. You sound like a very selfish, bitter, uncaring father. Your posting is ALL ABOUT YOU, not the child! Hopefully, you don't have any issues with family court judges that have had bad experiences with you or members of your family -- if you have, tread lightly, such a judge may not be merciful if he/she has to deal with you again. She may have enough leverage already to get more custodial time. Don't blow it chump! |

You should be thankful that she has an interest in your daughter. I see so many divorced couples that fight and argue over the kids and it is the kids that get hurt. If both parents work together and communicate it makes the child grow up with a feeling of love and support not bitterness, anxiety, and feel they have to choose between the parents. An open line of communication between you and your ex is the best for your child.

Why are you upset that Mom is taking an interest in her daughter and daughter's schooling? Was there recently a court action concerning visitation where Mom wanted more time but the Judge didn't allow it? I ask because I don't understand your being upset by it. To be completely honest, your post came across almost as if your daughter is a possesion, and you're upset because you cannot control evry aspect of your possesion. I truly hope that is not how you feel. |
