how much am i allowed to know
I have recently discovered a very serious criminal history belonging to my daughter's biological father. We live in Canada. I have full custody and he has visitation dependant on my agreement. He hasn't seen her in years and that was his choice. He has been avoiding paying child support since day one. Anyways, my question is how much information am I entitled to where my daughter's safety is a concern? Can I get details from his past criminal record? Will the police be able to talk to me about recent charges? How do I protect my daughter from seeing him? He has not been abusive or violent towards her or myself but has threatened to "take" her to the states once, where his family is from. What measures can I take to keep his criminal activities away from her? Can I use information, even if he hasn't been convicted to our advantage to deny him any sort of contact?

If you can show them that your daughter is possibly in danger they may share all information with you. Otherwise you need to file in court and explain the problem--the judge will then order access for you.
