Default Notify then serve? - Filing a motion to modify his parenting time

My husband will be filing a motion to modify his parenting time soon. Should he contact his ex and let her know that he is planning on modifing, before he has her served? Or should he just file and have her served without notice?
She is extremely difficult to work with and would most likely not agree with something he has changed in the parenting plan either way. She did not notify him when the original papers were filed. Any suggestions??

He can just have her served if you are sure that any discussion is pointless.
