complex question

My boyfriend has been going through a bad divorce and custody going on three years now. He had a horrible attorney in the beginning that let his ex move to fla with the kids and agreed to these horrible alegations that weren't true. After seeing his kids for three weeks in over a year he got a new attorney. A huge battle started when things were looking grim for her she pulled this arm injury thing after thanksgiving saying father did it. Totally screwed up the child pschiatrist work and messed up all for him. Later after thousands of dollars and two of the childs Dr.'s testifying it was cleared but he still lost. He only gets 5 weeks visitation, spring break, thanksgiving weekend, xmas, and whatever weekend we can swing to Fla from Ny. Ex lied about everthing and has gotten away with it and the kids are being raised by grandparents in the other sisters house. The daughter says the boyfriend can't leave the state and none of the kids know his last name. She travels with a carnival and sees the kids a few months a year basically and dad has an open schedule to be fulltime. He has a large lawyer bill and seems like this guy didn't do much either. So what should he do. I'm thinking about going to law school to right this wrong somehow would I be able to represent him here in NY????
