Question child support after 18?

Is it legal to ask for child support after the child has turned 18? Child support was paid and documented up until her 18th birthday. The childs' legal guardian (grandmother) has asked for child support until the girl is 19 because she is still in high school. She is still in high school because she was held back a year in the first grade because her mother didn't send her to school regularly. The mother passed away 8 years ago.
The grandmother has been granted a court date. How can this happen?

It is permitted--but it is up to the judge. You can argue 18 is the legal age and nobody intended--in this case--for support to go beyond that age.
