Default Grandparents threatening legal action if not allowed visitation in Quebec

My Father and I recently decided to stop associating with eachother after years of troubled and abbusive relations. However he is now demanding visitation with my son (less than 1 year old) and claiming that there are laws in quebec which will force me to allow this.
He was never violent but I want him no where near myself, my wife or my family. I also can't afford to be drawn into a lengthy legal battle. Does he have a leg to stand on?

I wish to inform you that in matters relating to child visitation the main consideration is the best interest of child. In Quebec, the grandparents have visitation rights, can take grandchildren for outings and undertake telephone conversations. In your case as your father was abusive therefore you may show to court that it is in the interest of child that child does not meet with his grandparents. You can show the past actions of your father and may argue that grandparent should not be allowed visitation.

Grandparents have no more rights in Quebec than they do anywhere else. Let him spend a bunch of money to be told he has no rights.

The only people who have any rights are the mother and father.

Never believe the opposing party in any legal threatened action. People who truly know the law just take action. They don't waste time with idle threats.
