Confused how do I file for Child support in Illinois

My ex husband and I were each given the sole custody for 1 child each. Based on that I was told that I can not file for childsupport until the child he has turns 18, he is now 17 but will be 18 in December. However, I recieved court papers that he is signing legal guardianship over to a person that I do not know. I intended to fight it and take custody of my son, however, my son is really angry and does not even speak to me. The son that I have custody of is 10 years old. My question is; because my ex-husband signed guardianship away am I now able to file for support of my youngest son? I am currently unemployed and in school and the extra income would be very very helpful right now! please advise. Thanks Laura.

That does not mean he is not financially responsible now for the child--he may still be.
How is that all set up?

Unhappy Re: how do I file for Child support in Illinois

not sure I was not informed of any details I just received the letter in the mail. His new wife does not allow him to talk to me even when it is about the kids. the letter states that they are both signing legal guardianship over to this person. She is still recieving child support from her ex husband as far as I know again.. I do not know the details of the situation.
