I am a 26 year old Canadian, married to an American with a 9 month old daughter. Our home life in Rhode Island has become unbearable and I am now in Quebec , with my daughter - trying to sort things out. My husband is now accusing me of kidnapping our daughter, although all I wanted to do was leave a hostile situation. I have been a stay at home mom since she was born; she has been in my care 24/7; my husband taking little interest in her at all. I want to do the right thing for her and I feel that his explosive anger and quick temper is damaging to our baby. I am frightened for our future. For her future really. I realize that there are legal ramifications for my actions and I would like advice on how to proceed from here.

File in your local Canadian court and try to get a custody order before he files in the US. It will give you authority to proceed how you wish. You should have counsel involved if possible.
