Default Sensitive situation needs your discretion and advice

Hello all.

I live in Santa Barbara, California. My girlfriend is devorcing her husband whom she has a twelve year old boy with. She would like to move in with me but is afraid her husband will gain full custody of the boy, who she wants joint custody with, if he researches my past and 'manipulates' the court system with that information to his advantage. She feels he knows enough about family law, even though he is not a lawyer, to facilitate sole custody.

I was involved with steroid use 20 years ago and the drug turned me into an animal. I sexually assualted a woman, confessed, served my time and now I am a registered sex offender for the rest of my life.

Is her worry justified? Will a court see me as a threat to a twelve year old boy when I have absolutely no history of any offense against a minor? I have led a very clean life since release from prison and off the steroids.

Thank you for your assistance.

yes her worry is justifed. if she moves in with you, she can pretty much kiss having custody of her son goodbye. would you be ok with YOUR child living with a registered sex offender? you wont be allowed to be alone with this child. or any child under 18 for that matter. shes gonna have to choose between her sex offender bf and her son, and i hope shes smart, and chooses her child

In a perfect world people would not be judged by their past mistakes. I know that people change. However, todays society is harsh. She will more than likely lose in court if the two of you are just cohabitating. I feel for you and her. Try God he can work miracles!
