Michigan: I want to have arrears surcharges discharged. I believe I have paid all of the child support arrears and all that's left 25k, is surcharges. When I read the qualifications it seems one has to be sort of uncollectable. That wouldn't be me. I have income witholding the last seven years. What can I do? In 02 I owed 34k and they added 28 k which took it up to 62k. Since then I have paid 56k and I STILL owe 25k. I've been told to file motion for payment agreement then comply and after a certain amount of time the surcharges can be discharged but I hear it is unlikely. Also do I have to have it in the usual jurisdiction (Wayne County) Michigan (Detroit). The judges and referees treat fathers like scum.

How are those surcharges so large?

But in any case you must convince the judge to see that you paid and do not owe further--like it or not you will have to deal with them.
