where is the child's father? unless he can be proven unfit or consents, its not going to happen. you have no rights to this child. same goes for your niece.

Is the child already in your custody? You need an attorney to draw up papers. If the father has been granted any parental/custodial rights by the court, he can stop it. If not, you can be granted the rights. If you are fighting the mother or father for rights....that's almost impossible, but not completely.

People here think ONLY mothers and fathers can and will be granted custody/guardianship. That is correct in the majority of the cases, but not all.
