I live abroad, however I had sent my passport to the U.S.A. for visa purposes and it got confiscated by State Department for back child support. As a result Im stranded in a foreign land without my passport. Im willing to start paying and clearing the arrearage but I need my pp back first to be able to start working (have been without a job for 6 months). Would the child support services be willing to agree to a payment plan and recommend that my passport be returned to me so I can start working.

It may seem that way. But I made mistakes in my younger days, Im older and I like to believe wiser and want to right the wrongs as much as it can be made right.

I'm glad this happened to you. It is nice to know that the Federal Govnt. is finally taking international child support seriously.I have been fighting to get my son's father into court but he has evaded his responsibilities by living abroad.
I suggest you contact the US Embassy where you are and they will direct you to the appropriate State Department Contact. Or, check out the State Department website: there is a Department of Children and Families link on it. |
