To What Age Can You Get A Child Support Order

My step-daughter is turning 19 in a few months. We have never had a child support order, but have paid child support since she was born. Recently she has decided that she doesn't want to work or go to school. She just wants to do nothing. She graudated from high school last year and since has not worked or gone to school. Her mom allows her to do this and just gives her money when she needs it. Her mother wants us to contiue to paying support and my husband and I don't want to. We have no problem helping out, but not just for her to do nothing. Since there was never an order of support I was wondering at age the court would not allow you to file one. We live in New York State so the child support age here is 21.

If the New York support age is 21 - then I assume you should pay until the child is 21 or risk a big arrears order and have to pay child support twice...
