Collecting back and current child support

Ok i have a few questions... My ex husband will be 5000.00 behind in child support as of June 1, 2009. He is currently unemployed and I believe by choice because he can sit around and get paid not only unemployment from the state but also from his union hall. So is there a way to get any money from him at all considering he is unemployed? Is there a way to motivate him to get a job (legally)? Lastly, can he get his child support and arrearage dropped since he is unemployed? I am struggling financially considering he walked away from us and our bills which he is also not paying. I am paying all of his past bills which he was required by court order to pay and everything else. I am drowning! Help!

Don't pay any bills of his unless your name is on them. If there is a court order that HE is responsible but it's still in both names - you need to try and get your name removed from the debt.

He can't get arrearage reduced - without a court order by a judge - but he could temporarily get child support reduced. You need to contact the child support agency that handles your case to persue any collection options you may have.

You can also ask the court to start making him pay on what he should be earning...or jail him.

If the court agrees with what you say about him, they may jail him for few days to motivate him!
