When I found out I was pregnant my husband demanded I have an abortion or leave. I have no issue with abortion, but personally I would never choose to have one, and this is something my husband knew before we were married. So I left and moved back in with my parents. My husband had a bad drinking problem before we were together, and still struggled with the problem. Sometimes disappearing for the weekend, doing drugs and drinking heavily. After I left he quickly slipped out of control and lost our appartment and lost his job.
Now he has changed his mind and wants to be part of the childs' life, and reconcile the relationship (which I am not interested in). We are on good terms and have come to a basic custody arraignment which would allow him weekly visits that would be supervised by his mother, sister, or acourt appointed supervisor. He understands the concerns I have with him being left alone with the child. Unfortunately my parents home is being foreclosed. My father has a job offer several states away, and they are most likely moving there. I have tried to get housing assistance from the state, but have been unable to do so. I have attempted to find a way to stay in state, but can not. I feel that my best option is to move with my parents, they are charging my very little rent, and my mother is available for help with childcare. If I decide to move it would be in the next 2 months, and I would be 4 1/2 months. Would he be able to stop me, or force me and the child to return even if they are born in a different state? You do what you need to do. It's a tough situation you are in and a tough economy on top of it. Last edited by tbyte; Jan 11th, 2009 at 10:01 PM. |

While you're pregnant you can go and he can't stop you. You have to do what's best for you. In the eyes of the law the child doesn't exist until actually born. Once the child is born it's a different matter.

She could end up with her being homeless and without work if she stays.
It is best for the child if she is stable and with family. It is therefore, a roll down effect that also makes it the best for the child. Last edited by Gbyte; Jan 13th, 2009 at 08:08 AM. |

What we know for CERTAIN is that after she leaves the child will have no substantial relationship with its father. Not that that matters to you...she will have complete control of their child and receive substantial support, so that should make you happy. |

you can do this .. just do it legal. File a motion with your county that your moving out of state - stating it's in the best interest of the child. It only is a problem if Dad answers it. Sometimes parenting is all about a step at a time. File the motion (usually this costs nothing if you've already got a family law already on the books) and many women's programs in your area will help you fill it out. Google "women help law" and the city you live in to find a legal team to help you out.
