Confused Pre-Trial COnference..Please Help

Hi am in SC and I just got papers the other day that I need to attend a pre trial conference. I am the defendant in this case. My ex- boyfriend took me to court almost a year ago to try and get custody of our 1 yr old daughter. I ended up getting custody of her. But that was a "Temporary Hearing". Now 8 months later I get this. When I went to court for the temporary hearing I represented myself. The only so called ''evidence" he had for his accusations were just letters from friends. In no way am I a bad mother. All his accusations are lies therefor this is why he didn't have hard evidence.
I will have an attorney for this conference and for the trial. But my question is is what is often done at pre-trial conferences? I haven't met with my lawyer yet so thought I would ask here first. Do you think he is trying to come to a settlement with our daughter..I am just confused. Please help..What do they do in Pre-Trials for custody?? Thanks Everyone!!

Letters from friends.Hearsay.Any way i thought pre trial confrence was a criminal proceding. Is this simply a custody hearing. If he dont got anything as far as evidence i belive the child will stay with you .However more and more courts are considering men for custody.Best Regards
