just had a baby 10 days ago and the father is financially unstable and a
recovering opiate abuser who admits to still using drugs and distributing them and takes Suboxen to detox from Oxycontin. He has been emotionally abusive through out my pregnancy and subsequent delivery. He bullied me into letting him and his family into the hospital and then harassed me the entire time I was recovering from my cesarian. I allowed him to visit me at home once and he became threatening and verbally abusive again and now I will not let him come back. I have had to file a police report and fille for a peace order, because the threats and harassment towards me and my family and oldest child will not cease. He is not on the b.c. and he said he wants custody. She is nursing every 2 hours and I've provided all her needs, during and after my pregnancy, because he never had anything to contribute. I've provided health insurance, since he refused to do so and take her to well baby visits and I have the safe, stable home. He had to sell his home, because he can not afford it and is uncertain as to where he will move. Is is possible he could get some form of custody? I have filed for sole custody already. |

If he gets his act together or you are unable to prove the allegations - as they can be hard to "prove", he will likely gain some form of visitation. Custody is more iffy.
I would HIGHLY recommend you demonstrate a willingness to include the father in your childs life in a controlled/monitored fashion at the very least. Contact your local battered womens shelter and they should be able to tell you the name of supervised visitation organizations in your area. You register, tell him where you registered. If he doesn't register or doesn't want to participate in supervised visits - you can say you tried. They will talk you through the process. You will not have to come face to face with him during it. |
