He needs to file a motion with the court asserting that he believes he is the father of the unborn child, and asking that parental rights and child support be established.
But...a little bit of reading on these forums would also show the absolute importance of requesting a DNA test to establish paternity as well.

Yes dna it is the truth of the .pin the baby on the wrong person game.The playing field is getting more and more level.There isnt any more thats so and sos baby. Ican really apprecheate modern tecnology.

Shouldn't he also put his name into that father database that would cover any attempts by the GF to hide and put the baby up for adoption?

Don't know the name of the service....some sort of registry...

Putative father registry. Yes that would be a good idea! Athough i know a girl who had 4 babies. And named them on her ex.He is a ssi recipient and they dont make him pay support. So the girl draws welfare of of babies.Talk about a screwed up system.Oh the ssi adult/child didnt know what he was doing.
