what rights does full custody give

I am in the process of divorce. My husband does love his kids and they love him. His drinking is a problem but he has never drank when he was in charge of them. He just never grew up and became responsible. When ever he wants to party he goes and doesn't come home. (That's fine with me) Anyway I was thinking if he went for full custody I would feel like he was going to keep my kids away from me. So he may be feeling the same. When you share custody does it get sticky?

Oh dear. You should really discuss this in depth with everybody you can.

If you are not comfortable with him then don't willingly allow him to share custody. That drinking problem sounds not good to me.

He should let you guide how custody and visitation should occur.

Yes, it is possible to share custody without things getting "sticky". Or at least any more sticky than divorces and custody always gets.
The more amicably you can part, the better off all parties (including the children) will be.
