Confused Father pays support no visitation

My boyfriend and I just decided to move to Southern California a couple months ago. He is still married to his ex, but legally seperated i think. He's not so sure either. He has paid child support on time every month since they split and she is telling him he can't see the kids cause she's being an "over protective mother." He has a little girl (8) and a son (6) They live in Ohio and she refuses to let them hop on a plane to come see us. Even though we have offered to pay for them to come. They never went through any custody agreements or anything. So we don't know what to do. We both miss his kids horribly and want to file the visitation papers but we're kinda low on money right now due to the move. I need help so i can help him. Him and his kids are the most important things in my life and i don't feel complete and most positive he doesn't either without being able to see them.

What he needs to do is find out whether he is actually divorced or not, and whether there are any visitation orders in effect.
Really, people. There are no excused for not knowing this information. If you don't know what the laws are, and what your rights are, and what orders have been issued, you can hardly complain about being taken advantage of.

Here in this case, he should not have left his children for the sake of other wife, but this really nice that she is really interested in taking care of his children.
