Default Support for a child who isn't his...

I have a friend who is currently going to court over a child that isn't his. He signed the birth certificate when the child was born because he didn't know that his g/f had cheated with his best friend. Now the mother and my friend are seperated and the biological father is in the daughters life my friend is still being considered the father and doesn't know how to remove himself from the situation... any advice is helpful....

The laws on this vary from one State to another, and are changing all the time. He simply must consult an attorney on this.

Depends on the State. Pennsylvania has Presumption of Paternity. If you claim to be the father or if you were married to the mother during conception or birth it is all but impossible to have yourself removed as the child's father. Most other states are not this strict and if the child is young and will not be affected or the child knows that he is not their father they will remove them. Request a paternity test through the child support office...best of luck.
