Question disability

I am a single mother of a multiply handicapped child (hydroencephalus, autism, mental retardation, ovarian CA, epilepsy, ect). She is dependent on myself for everything (she is 19), she will never work, or be able to live alone. Can her father be forced to support her after the age of majority (we live in NY). I don't want to force this issue, but for anyone out there who has raised a handicapped child, they know that the burdens are great (as are the blessings).
