You will need to petition for a temporary decrease. Contact your Child Support Collection Agency for details, and do it quickly.

That is correct, call your support agency and have it modified. I'm not sure how old is your child (children) is and if your up to date as far as monthly payments when mandatory to pay....make sure keep the stubs and your monthly statement (put it in a three ring binder, your archive) from your support agency as I have, it would be useful when seeing a judge (it will look impressive to judge your consistent with it) for reconsidering making payments on time! am 39 as my daughter is 21 college grad, as I am at her age, going to college and working paying child support out of my own pocket...but seperated from mom when I was 22 with her, endup paying child support ...days and years could be a struggle/frustrating paying child support, but make sure your on time no matter what your situation is ..yes even your collecting unemployment they will garnish your check, i went throught it same situation...Do not get yourself behind paying c.s., it will be hardship on long run. You will feel relieved when done! as soon as my daughter turned 18th birthday on 1995, I had balance of 2,000 left on arrears...I payed it off 500 dollars in 4 months, less than the agency asking for! I just wanted to get off my back! if you have arrears as I have, it xceeded to $8,000's (5,000's was on me - hospital bill, and 3,000's accrued 1,000's first year of not paying when she was 1 yr old, 2,000's when unemployed) that's when my daughter was about 6 years old, as years gone by tax seasons where recapturing my tax returns which was fine it has brought it down dramatically, but then I was serious at that age when she was 6 years old paying it off monthly regardless, I had the interest stayed when she was 11 years old, Judge reconsidered it (I had my three ring binder of mo. payment statements) it help alot!!!!!!!! They've sent me a letter from support agency they will report to credit bureau that "I owe nothing"! basically, and a month later....a congratulation letter that i'm done with support signed by c.s. support commissioner and thank you card making business with them and call them up when having more babies.....NOT!!!!!!!!! Although it was a relief! Free at last! Good luck and god bless to all!
