what it the penalty for oweing over 11,000 and willfully not paying the child support

my husbands ex girlfriend owes this much on a child that she abandoned, not his child and the support is due in puerto rico to her grandad. she has not paid it even though she works.

what is the crime for this

normally if there is a court ordered support it can be garnished from their paycheck through child support services if they are working. if its court ordered & he knows where she is working he can let child support know. also if she was eligible for a tax return child support would get it first as well as the stimulus check that is coming. i dont see how she is working & they are not taking it. child support here in iowa does social checks every couple days when they are looking for people who owe but you have to have a case. the amount she owes will also reflect on her credit report as well.

i also forgot it does accrue interest as well, so that would be part of penalty. i know in virginia you do go to jail when you are behind on child support. my fiance couple years agp threw his back out couldnt work he got behind . well finally way down road he was able to work again so he was having it deducted from his payroll but he was still in arrears , they picked him up at his job & arrested him for the arrearage of 1700.00, they not only kept him for over a week due to messed up paperwork , amounts , requiring bondsman , he also lost his job at the same time. so some states really enforce the child support. i think his was abit extreme as it made him get behind all over again .

Not paying over 10,000 can also permit arrest warrants to be issued and denial of passports.
