Unhappy Child support washington state

My son (25) has a 21 month son and never married the mother. They are separted. My son just about to start a job at $35k a year. Mother(22) has been going to school off and on (off right now) and just started a job full time last week approx 20k a year. I have kept baby approx 3 days a week and now mother is working full time I am keeping baby M - F most nights too. My son will put baby on his health insurance. Mother says she wants health insurance from state but they will then want to get child support from my son. My question is should my son file for 50% child custody? Will this stop him paying child support even though I keep him a large part of the time. Or will it just reduce his child support? How much will he have to pay? What are we to do? How hard is it to get 50% custody?

Your can file for, and may even receive 50% custody, but he will probably still be required to pay child support. The only way a father can get out of paying support is if he is granted full custody. If he were the mother, he would be receiving support, but as the father you can bet the courts will make him the payor.

Thumbs Up Re: Child support washington state

I feel for you son as I am going through much the same thing. I pay support and since I am active duty AF rarely get to see my daughter while the mother lives at home and recieves welfare. I also provide medical insurance for my daughter, and the mother is trying to sue me for attorny fees and wants full custody. It is a hard fight but tell your son to stick with it, as isnt the child the most important anyway.
