Confused Whats my right?

Hi I would like to find out about my ex boyfriends rights. We had been dating for 4 and a half years when I found out that I was pregnant. We decided to get married, but we never got engaged. One day out of the blue he told me that he didnt want to marry me anymore and that I was not welcome in his house any longer. I honestly did not expect that. He chased me away like a dog. I am now 9months pregnant and he is telling everyone that he will take me to court for my son. He has a very bad drinking habit!

What I would like to know, is what are my rights and his? I do not want him part of my sons life at all, nor his parents! What can I do?

You will both have rights to your child unless his drinking is a problem and the court see it and agrees with you.

But most likely you will be the parent with primary custody and he will visit as you two agree or as a court will determine if you two cannot agree.

Actually, as an unmarried mother, she is presumed to have full custody of the child. The father will have little or no rights to begin with. He will need to sue for visitation for starters.

Does he want to be in the child's life? ask him to sign over his rights.

He cannot "sign over his rights" except to another man, married to the mother, who legally adopts the child. The State's interest lies in ensuring that they can go after somebody for child support to recover any financial assistance the child receives from the State, so they insist that another adult mail agree to be financially responsible for the child.
