how long does a person have to sue after a car accident?

I was driving a friends truck, which i was not insured on nor was there
any car insurance on the truck anyways. Well, i was at a stop light and the
light turned green and i had the arrow to turn left. A pedestrian
walked out in front of me and i ended up hitting him in the knee. He at the time claimed it was no big deal because \"it was a old football injury and
it always hurt". He went to the hospital in a ambulance to have it
checked out. I gave him money and a phone and ipod (which broke during the accident) to help him out. This happened Feb. 14th 2007...how Long does he have to sue me. I hired a lawyer and i never heard about anything since then. Until the guy that owned the truck got a letter on Dec. 18th 2007 saying that he was being sued by the pedestrian. If the pedestrian wins the case can the guy that owns the truck come after me to pay what he got sued for? What are my options? Please help

He could yes...he has several years in some cases.
